WhatsApp Privacy Feature

Privacy, in the increasingly digital age, is paramount. It is mandatory here at WhatsApp to create a platform where users can communicate without the fear of intrusion.

Meta’s cornerstone for building a robust and secure environment is end-to-end encryption, which provides a foundation for safe conversations. Yet, we believe in continually pushing the envelope, adding more layers of privacy to keep your communication secure.

The launch of Chat Lock, a feature that secures sensitive chats behind a password, Disappearing Messages that fade away over time, screenshot blocking via View Once, and options to keep your online presence hidden, are part of this ongoing initiative.

Today, Meta is thrilled to announce two additional features to fortify users’ privacy on WhatsApp: Silence Unknown Callers and Privacy Checkup. Both are available to users effective immediately.

Silence Unknown Callers: Control at Your Fingertips

Silence Unknown Callers aims to offer users a greater degree of control over their incoming calls. This feature helps automatically screen out unsolicited calls, scams, and communication from unknown individuals for bolstered protection.

While these calls will not cause your phone to ring, they will still appear in your Call list, ensuring that you don’t miss out on an important call by chance.

Privacy Checkup: Ensuring User Awareness

To create awareness about these new privacy provisions on WhatsApp, we are introducing the Privacy Checkup. This tool is essentially a comprehensive guide, taking you through critical privacy settings to ensure you select the right level of protection for your individual needs.

By selecting the ‘Start checkup’ option in users’ Privacy settings, they will be directed through various privacy layers designed to enhance the security of their messages, calls, and personal data.

Safe Space to Connect

Securing private communication is not just a matter of technological advancement, but an ethical imperative. Meta believes that people should have a safe space to communicate, a philosophy they are promoting globally in new and innovative ways.

Beginning this week, Meta is encouraging users to securely connect via private messages. This initiative is designed to reassure friends and family that they can openly express themselves in a secure environment.

Meta at WhatsApp is committed to the relentless pursuit of privacy, keeping you secure as you navigate through your digital interactions. The implementation of Silence Unknown Callers and Privacy Checkup also gives users not only a platform to communicate freely.

But it also provides the peace of mind that the conversations of the users are private and secure. Privacy is not just an add-on; it’s a necessity, and we strive to ensure it remains at the core of what we do.
